Tips & advice

A conservatory should bring you enjoyment for many years to come so it pays to take the time at design stage. Here are a few tips when thinking about your ideal conservatory space:-

Design to suit your home

Take time to consider all the design options at this stage.  A misplaced door or awkward corner can restrict the enjoyment of your new conservatory.

Get the size right

Make sure you measure out the internal floor area when assessing how much space you need, the wall thickness can then be added to this.
Ensure that you allow enough space to make the most of your new living area.

Will the furniture you want fit in, for example?

Consider the view

A poorly positioned door or opening window light can obscure the best view of your garden.

Heating options

If you are thinking of extending the existing house central heating to include the conservatory, check that the existing boiler or electrical consumer unit is large enough to handle this extra capacity.  Consider the other options as well, under floor heating can be utilised to ensure a comfortable temperature all year round that is independent from the rest of your home.

Getting the roof right

There is a wide range of options for either polycarbonate or glass roofs. Glass roofs can be self cleaning to reduce dirt build up and both polycarbonate and glass can be supplied with tinted options to reduce heat and glare in the summer months.

Glazed roofs means that conservatories can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter so it is worth considering roof vents, window blinds and heating options.

Sun Room

An alternative to a conservatory is a traditional summer house. This offers the benefits of all round large glazed wall areas of a conservatory but with a solid roof construction which is insulated for year round practicality. The roof finish can be designed to match or complement the roof of your house.
